Why It’s Bogus: It’s a fee that covers the cost of handling and filing paperwork, which most dealerships will attempt to make non-negotiable in order to profit off the car more. Also, with little regulation, many states can charge up to $649 in doc fees. At Carvana, we make things easier simply by doing everything online and not charging bogus fees.

Inspection Fee
A fee the dealership chargers for a routine inspection on a car before it’s put up for sale.
Why It’s Bogus: Any kind of inspection cost is usually already covered in the cost of the vehicle. When a dealer charges you for this fee, it’s their way of double charging you for the work in order to pocket the rest as profit. That’s why when we inspect, we already include it in our already low prices.

Markup Fee
Commonly referred to as “ADM Fee” is used by the dealer for any additional fees the dealership needs to charge.
Why It’s Bogus: It’s a fee the dealer adds to the price of the car for additional profit or as a buffer for negotiations. If their ADM fee is $1000 and you talk them down $800, they still pocket an extra $200. At Carvana we like to keep prices low by not charging you bogus fees.
